Visual investigations projects require many of the skills common to both breaking news, investigatory, and advanced visual journalism. Even as the first news breaks, and the team begins combing through social media posts, videos, satellite images, maps, and pen source intelligence, you must simultaneously consider not only how this information adds to your understanding of the event, but also how you will utilize the evidence in an an advanced visual presentation. USA TODAY’s Graphics team has been doing this work for several years now, but a strategy started to take shape after our coverage of the shootings in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
