Project description:
Since first being recorded in late 2019 in China, the Covid-19 coronavirus has rapidly spread around the world, and been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. This project presents the spread of the epidemic and the breaking news in Asia. Users can use the timeline function to trace the spread of the epidemic.
Impact reached:
In the first month of the Covid-19 outbreak, there was a lot of incorrect information spread on the Internet, so we made this project in a very short time in order to present accurate and complete information on the epidemic and reduce public panic.
Techniques/technologies used:
The project’s map source was provided by NatureEarth. Imported to Leaflet after conversion and compression. The data source was linked to google sheet to present in real-time.
What was the hardest part of this project?
In January 2020, the outbreak just broke out, and the information about the epidemic in China was incomplete. So we have to compare the numbers repeatedly with different sources and try to present the real numbers and reports of the epidemic.
What can others learn from this project?
This project can help other journalists understand how to deal with a constantly changing number and present it in an appropriate visual way.
