To Whom It May Concern,

I am a freelance journalist from Curitiba, Brazil. I graduated from college in 2018, and last year I got a Specialization degree in International Relations and Diplomacy. I am particularly interested in writing about topics such as climate change, sustainable development, and human rights. In 2019, I started a personal blog about environment and sustainability called “Info Sustentável”. Aside from building up my portfolio and developing my writing and digital communication skills, my goal with this project is to help spread relevant information about several topics regarding climate change and environmental issues. I also like to write in my blog about positive and transformative actions being taken in my country, especially by civil society, for protecting the environment.

My familiarity with these topics has increased in the last few years; in college, I wrote an article about the effects of climate change, for which I received a scientific journalism prize from Paraguay’s National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT). In 2018, I attended an international youth conference (“The Youth Assembly”) in New York City and Washington, D.C. about the 2030 Agenda, where I have learned more about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In 2019, I began two volunteer works that are also linked with my topics of interest. First, I attended a “Climate Reality Project” capacitation program in Atlanta, U.S., where I had the opportunity of seeing the Former Vice-President of the United States Al Gore’s live presentation on climate change. A few weeks later, I joined the volunteer staff of the “Youth Action Hubs Brazil”, an initiative supported by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) that aims to engage young people in implementing the 2030 Agenda in their communities.

I am submitting my portfolio to the Sigma Awards as a form to encourage myself to keep writing about topics I am passionate about, even when it is just a personal, individual project with no remuneration. I have never received any sort of funding for creating and keeping my blog; I just started by myself, using the tools I had access to, and my previous knowledge in journalism, blog editing, and social media (I create the Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter posts as well). You can also notice that some of my posts contain my own illustrations and infographics, which reflects my efforts to deliver easily understandable content. My goal is to keep telling inspiring stories, explaining facts, and raising awareness on all relevant sustainability topics so that people can be inspired to take action themselves.

2020 was a really challenging year for everyone, and it required from me an extra dose of motivation and resilience to keep up with my ideas and aspirations. The results of my personal efforts to keep my journalistic projects are shown in this submission.

Thank you very much for your consideration.
